Special Immigrant Juvenile Status

Special immigrant juvenile status.

Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) allows some youth to get lawful permanent residency when they cannot live with their parents due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment and it is not in their best interest to return to their home country. It is a two part process.  First, a state court must make custody orders through a guardianship or custody proceeding and then the youth can apply for a visa.
