  • Legal Aid of Marin (Housing)

    Legal Aid of Marin provides civil legal services to low income and senior residents of Marin, especially in regard to tenant rights, debtor rights, and worker rights.

    Fair Housing of Northern California provides literature and answers to fair housing questions, hosts seminars on fair housing laws and practices, and educates owners on how to keep from breaking the law. It also explains what individuals can do in cases of housing discrimination based on race, religion, gender, national origin, families with children, disability, age, marital status, and sexual orientation. Fair Housing of Northern California ensures equal housing opportunity and educates the community on the value of diversity. Services are free of charge and provided in Spanish.

  • Immigration

    The Canal Alliance provides immigration legal services, including temporary and permanent residency, asylum, citizenship, removal (deportation) defense, family petitions, employment authorization, TPS, special programs, immigration assistance for battered immigrants, and know-your-rights community education. Services are provided for a low fee or at no cost. Free case management for low-income families is also provided.

  • Public Benefits

    Bay Area Legal Aid‍ provides free legal assistance for low income persons in Social Security, General Assistance, CalWORKs, Food Stamps, CAPI, Medi-Cal, and Medicare appeals. Counsel and advice in family law and housing matters is also available by calling the Legal Advice Line (LAL) at 415-354-6340.

  • Financial & Tax Information

    Earn It! Keep It! Save It! (EKS) is a coalition of Bay Area organizations that provide free tax preparation to households earning less than $54,000 a year. United Way Bay Area partners with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), churches, nonprofits, AARP, and other organizations to scale the free tax preparation effort across the region.

  • Children & Families

    Legal Self Help Servicesprovides legal assistance to self-represented litigants and legal information to all. The Center assists individuals to prepare their own legal forms and pleadings. The Center understands the law that applies to litigants' legal issues, knows the civil and court procedural requirements related to their legal matter, and provides training to self-represented litigants on how to present their legal matter at hearing, trial, or mediation. If the client requires legal services other than those available, an appropriate referral is made.

    The San Francisco Bar Association's Lawyer Referral Service is sponsored as a public service for those who need an independent lawyer's advice and can pay a reasonable fee. The Lawyer Referral Service schedules a half-hour consultation for a $35 fee, with an attorney who is qualified in those areas necessary to meet your specific legal needs.

    Family Works agency offers parenting classes, and counseling on a sliding scale.

    Marin County Department of Child Support Services is a free service which can assist you with the establishment and enforcement child support orders.

    The Marin County District Attorney Consumer Protection Unitprovides free information on consumer rights; referrals, as needed, to outside law enforcement-regulatory agencies for investigation of violations of California law; and civil or criminal prosecution of individuals or organizations if warranted. The Consumer Protection Unit also provides mediation of all consumer and business related disputes. No fee for the services.

    California Courts Self-Help Center helps you find assistance and information, work better with an attorney, and represent yourself in some legal matters.

    Law Help California provides low-income Californians with easy online access to basic legal resources and attorney information.

    Marin County Superior Court provides access to the Marin County Superior Court Calendar, Court Department information, filing fees, local Court rules and a variety of other resources.

    Marin County District Attorney provides an opportunity to become acquainted with your District Attorney, the staff, the programs offered and the community services they provide.

    Marin County Public Defender provides an opportunity to become acquainted with the Public Defender, the programs offered and the services they provide.
